Title: Broken Down train today (19 June 2012)? Post by: johoare on June 19, 2012, 22:08:47 Does anyone know anything about this broken down train? I was on the 6.51pm out of Paddington but we didn't get very far at all until we stopped amd were told it was because of a broken down train on the main line (which was strange as several trains passed us on the mainline before we were allowed to continue)...
I was just wondering when it happened as I may have got a different train (that didn't require changing plus a long wait at Slough) had we been told in advance about this.. Title: Re: Broken Down train today (19 June 2012)? Post by: Southern Stag on June 19, 2012, 22:51:08 The 18:15 Paddington to Swansea failed near Acton Main Line. Two services were trapped on the down main, with other services behind that presumably diverting via the down relief which would have caused delay to other services using the relief lines, two tracks worth of trains were having to be run along only one track. The train was on the move with in half an hour though, so by about the time your train left Paddington it was on its way. I imagine by that point it had caused a fair bit of congestion though and the delay would have just been recovering from that.

Title: Re: Broken Down train today (19 June 2012)? Post by: smokey on June 20, 2012, 15:47:17 Well it just shows how VERY usful it is to have main & relief lines, not many areas have Quadruple lines.
Paddington to Didcot is the only part of the FGW to have lengthy multiple lines. Gone are the days when EVERY train had Buffers and drawgear so that when a train failed, the following train could be brought up behind and Push the failed train. Oh such is Progress ;D Title: Re: Broken Down train today (19 June 2012)?
