Title: More services for Porthlethen Post by: grahame on June 16, 2012, 18:12:37 Out of area - not Porthleven in Cornwall. But can we learn from this?
Porthlethen has a population of just under 7,500 (2011 estimate). The station re-opened in 1985, and now has 5 train services a day to Aberdeen - three in the morning for commuters, a late morning train and one in the evening. Passenger numbers 2010/2011 were 18,382. "Residents of Portlethen could see a rise in the number of trains stopping in the area if ScotRail take on comments by train users and local councillors." according to the Mearns Leader (http://www.mearnsleader.co.uk/news/fresh-hope-for-train-users-1-2356121) Does it really just take comments by train users and local councillors to get an increased service in Scotland, or has the paper simplifiled it? Who's paying First Scotrail how much for any improvement, or is it a commercial proposition?
