From Twitter (@FGW) (https://twitter.com/FGW/status/208132419835019265) Quote From tomorrow @VoloTv will be free to view in Coach D on our High Speed Trains - here's some more info - volo.tv/about-volo/ :-) From @VoloTV (https://twitter.com/VoloTv/status/207817235945881601) Quote Hi everyone. Either First are trying to impress more people to retain franchise or maybe a new revenue will soon be in place such as adverts. Either way I guess it makes things more interesting and offers a better experience passangers Title: Re: Volo TV now free to use Post by: EBrown on May 31, 2012, 11:43:45 Beat you to it! :P
http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/coffeeshop/index.php?topic=10871.msg112703#new Admittedly in the wrong place. Title: Re: Volo TV now free to use Post by: matt473 on May 31, 2012, 12:15:04 You can use it in a few more places than just London to the West though so more appropriate here :P
(Didn't see your post in all seriousness though so sorry for repeat posting) Title: Re: Volo TV now free to use Post by: EBrown on May 31, 2012, 12:28:59 You can use it in a few more places than just London to the West though so more appropriate here :P You clearly didn't see the bottom of my post! (It was in size 4pt)Quote Admittedly in the wrong place. Title: Re: Volo TV now free to use Post by: Btline on May 31, 2012, 13:09:28 Clearly commuters, already fleeced by sky high fares, weren't willing to pay extra for this. it would be interesting to hear the usage figures.
Good news. Title: Re: Volo TV now free to use Post by: Chris from Nailsea on May 31, 2012, 14:43:54 I've now moved and merged both topics here - just so that Btline's beloved "fleeced commuters" can read all about it ... ;) :D ;D

Title: Re: Volo TV now free to use Post by: Cornish Traveller on June 13, 2012, 11:00:51 :( Well you need to be daft as a sheep to put up with trainlines rip off fees and appalling customer service !
Title: Re: Volo TV now free to use Post by: Rhydgaled on June 13, 2012, 11:42:17 43%* - Umm, The small-print, that I assume explains the *, is very small. Without a bucket of sheep food, you are highly unlikely to get close enough to the sheep to read it without the sheep running away.
Does advertising law allow that? As for Volo TV, I assume this isn't just a trial period of making it free, so it will be permanently free unless somebody else wins the next franchise and desides to make it payable again? Title: Re: Volo TV now free to use Post by: Btline on June 13, 2012, 13:28:54 How can The Trainline get away with that when the overall price is ALWAYS more expensive than other websites?
Surely the ASA could ban the advert? Title: Re: Volo TV now free to use Post by: Southern Stag on June 13, 2012, 13:50:30 As for Volo TV, I assume this isn't just a trial period of making it free, so it will be permanently free unless somebody else wins the next franchise and desides to make it payable again? I believe Volo TV got all the money from it anyway, when the TVs were first installed it was reported that Volo paid for it, so you'd expect them to get the money from them.Title: Re: Volo TV now free to use Post by: Tim on June 13, 2012, 17:31:44 How can The Trainline get away with that when the overall price is ALWAYS more expensive than other websites? Surely the ASA could ban the advert? The ASA did ban a very similar broadcast advert (see http://www.asa.org.uk/ASA-action/Adjudications/2011/9/Trainline,-d-,com-Ltd/SHP_ADJ_158295.aspx (http://www.asa.org.uk/ASA-action/Adjudications/2011/9/Trainline,-d-,com-Ltd/SHP_ADJ_158295.aspx) ) Title: Re: Volo TV now free to use Post by: old original on June 13, 2012, 20:42:30 tried the "new" service yesterday, all films have gone, now down to a selection of tv repeats, fawlty towers, top gear, american dad etc.. More on the sleeper service with several Merlin episodes + the ITV Titanic mini series.
Title: Re: Volo TV now free to use Post by: JayMac on June 14, 2012, 00:00:20 Content has been reduced, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Fawlty Towers episode: 'The Psychiatrist' on the way back from watching a recording of the TV show 'QI' in London this evening. Seen all of Fawlty Towers loads of times, but Basil and Co still make me chuckle and occasionally guffaw.... which may've been unsettling for the folk around me!
Hotel Guest (asking about somewhere for an evening meal): "Anywhere they do French food?" Basil: "Yes. France I believe. They seem to like it there. The swim will certainly sharpen your appetite. You better hurry. The tide leaves in six minutes." ;D Another trip to London and beyond tomorrow. May well see what else is on offer on Volo. Although my return journey as far as Reading is booked seats in Coach A. Being 1830, the chances of grabbing two seats in 'D' off Paddington are likely limited. Still. Evening peak and walk-up ticket. Just glad to have bagged some seat reservations. Thanks to FGW via Facebook for that. ;) Title: Re: Volo TV now free to use Post by: bobm on June 14, 2012, 22:10:25 Must admit when I walked through Coach D today on a London bound service there were more people watching on the screens than I have seen for a long time.
As for Fawlty Towers - never tire of that. Perhaps the fact they only made 12 and didn't try to keep on past their best helps. My favourite quote - from 'Basil the Rat'- the final episode.. Basil says to Manuel "You have rats in Spain, don't you - or did Franco have them all shot?" Title: Re: Volo TV now free to use Post by: JayMac on June 14, 2012, 22:38:50 Basil says to Manuel "You have rats in Spain, don't you - or did Franco have them all shot?" Manuel: I say to man in shop "Is rat." He say "No, no, no. Is a special kind of hamster. Is filigree Siberian hamster." Only one in shop. He make special price: only five pound. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPP4P3gKGss forward to 5:58 ;D Title: Re: Volo TV now free to use Post by: bobm on June 14, 2012, 22:47:05 Wildly off topic now but for some reason there was a seven month gap between episode 5 and episode 6 (Basil the Rat) being shown. Not sure why.
Title: Re: Volo TV now free to use Post by: JayMac on June 14, 2012, 23:54:31 Staying off topic, but it's interesting to discuss nonetheless. BBC technicians strike.....
From Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fawlty_Towers#Episode_guide): Quote Production of the last two episodes (in 1979) was disrupted by a strike of BBC technical staff, which resulted in the recasting of the role of Reg (the wisecracking friend of Basil and Sybil) in "The Anniversary", and delayed the episode's transmission date by one week. The episode "Basil the Rat" was also delayed, not being screened until the end of a repeat showing six months later.
