Title: Suspected arson attack at Camborne railway station - 18 May 2012 Post by: Chris from Nailsea on May 18, 2012, 16:52:57 From the BBC (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cornwall-18114537):
Quote Two suspected arson attacks in Cornwall, including one at a railway station, are being investigated. The fires were in piles of rubbish in the same area of Camborne. The fires, in an alley in East Charles Street and at the station in Trevu Road, were reported just after midnight, the fire service said. Twelve firefighters on two appliances dealt with the blazes. Police were called after the fires were determined to be suspicious. Title: Re: Suspected arson attack at Camborne railway station - 18 May 2012 Post by: Chris from Nailsea on May 19, 2012, 22:04:53 I can't find any news relating to a third incident on the Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service (https://db.cornwall.gov.uk/fbnews/info/details.asp?ID=17212) website - and I only offer any such items on this forum if they are relevant to stations in the FGW area, for information purposes only (whether now, or for possible reference in the future). :P
Title: Re: Suspected arson attack at Camborne railway station - 18 May 2012 Post by: LiskeardRich on May 19, 2012, 23:27:44 Only one of the fires was even partially relevant to the railway, the 2 nd was at a derelict warehouse at tuckingmill about 1/4 mile away, and the other was a car set alight near dolcoath level crossing. The third being the rubbish near the station. None of them were on the railway, the closest being 100 metres away at least. Dodgy journalists making it interesting by quoting the railway!
Title: Re: Suspected arson attack at Camborne railway station - 18 May 2012 Post by: JayMac on May 19, 2012, 23:36:48 Or rather, the BBC journalist looking at what was said by Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service (https://db.cornwall.gov.uk/fbnews/info/details.asp?ID=17212) and quoting that.
Quote The fires, in an alley in East Charles Street and at the station in Trevu Road, were reported just after midnight, the fire service said. Nothing dodgy about doing that. Title: Re: Suspected arson attack at Camborne railway station - 18 May 2012 Post by: vacman on May 20, 2012, 10:56:27 Arson attack in Camborne? Surely it would create ^5m of improvements! ;)

This is the local news reporting on the third fire which was "last Tuesday" according to the report. Conveniently the burnt down building was recently refused permission to be knocked down and redeveloped. However i somewhat doubt the kids seen were part of the developer who was refused permission however i imagine he may now be more successful in a re-application for demolishing. Title: Re: Suspected arson attack at Camborne railway station - 18 May 2012 Post by: Chris from Nailsea on May 22, 2012, 18:54:40 Well, Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service (https://db.cornwall.gov.uk/fbnews/info/details.asp?ID=17212) seem fairly sure they attended a fire at Camborne railway station:
Quote Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service Newsdesk Two Rubbish Fires East Charles Street and Camborne Train Station, Trevu Road, Camborne at 18/05/2012 00:08 A total of twelve fire-fighters on two appliances attended two separate rubbish fires this morning. One appliance attended a rubbish fire in a back lane off of East Charles Street. These crews used a hose reel and a pitch fork to extinguish the fire. A second appliance simultaneously extinguished a rubbish fire at Camborne Train station using one hose reel. Both fires were arson suspected and Devon and Cornwall Police attended the incident scene. Date Posted: 18/05/2012 by Jenna Gendall The Tuckingmill fire (https://db.cornwall.gov.uk/fbnews/info/details.asp?ID=17204) happened on 15 May 2012 (three days earlier): Quote Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service Newsdesk Fire In Derelict Building Off Pendarves Street, Tuckingmill, Camborne at 15/05/2012 20:07 Two appliances from Camborne attended this incident, the third in the same vicinity in the last four days. On arrival the crews found a small amount of rubbish on fire, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using a high pressure hosereel. Arson was again suspected. Children were seen in the vicinity. Devon & Cornwall Police have been informed and will be making further enquiries. Arson incidents tie up Cornwall Fire & Rescues resources when they could be required to be attending life threatening situations.
