Post by: molinnis on May 15, 2012, 07:08:01
Anyone else noticed that we are now into the second day of the summer timetable but the FGW site is still showing the winter timetables!!

Eh?

Following the 'Current timetable' link under the 'Train Times & Tickets' tab on the homepage takes you to the, er... current timetables.

Yes, so it does. But if you click the big bold "Timetables" icon on the homepage, you end up with "Timetables until 13 May 2012". Thinking I may have connected to a cached copy on my PC, I hit F5, but no change. The link name says "Current timetables", but the address associated with it is http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/Train-times-and-tickets/Train-times/Timetables-until-Sunday-13-May. The address for the "Current timetable" link, however, is http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/Train-times-and-tickets/Train-times/Timetables-from-14-May-2012, even though the link name is the same. Expect an update within hours of FGW becoming  aware!

Ah..... that involves scrolling down. Something I rarely do on the FGW homepage.  ;)

Having finally found the Summer version, I am intrigued to know why Cross Country do not stop at Par on their two Saturday afternoon departures from Newquay. All their arrivals to NQY do as does their morning departure and the Sunday one ???

It's strange, they did last year but then in the years before that most XC Newquay trains ran non stop through Par, in fact they often ran non stop from Plymouth to Newquay.

I'm not one for scrolling, either. Why should I, when they have a big icon with a picture of a timetable headed "Timetables"? I've tweeted FGW about it. It only needs a link correcting. If the website is a 12-year-old boy's IT project, it should be done before lunch.

But it probably is not. Assuming it is the job for an IT expert, give it a couple of weeks, then check whether it has been given a job number, etc, etc . . . ;)

I'm not much of a Twitter-er, given that the Prime Minister has strong views on the perils of too many tweets, but it did the trick:

@FGW The link in the "Timetables" icon on your home page goes to the old table. The text link at the foot of the page is correct.

Although the way it's been fixed is a bit odd. At least it's done.

Oh, the power of social media! I had no idea. I'll see if I can get Portishead opened next. Might take more than one tweet.
