Can they all be answered by the end of the FA cup final this afternoon? That's one of your famous trick questions, Graham, and I claim my ^5 :D No, they can't all be answered by the end of the FA Cup Final this afternoon, for the simple reason that the FA Cup Final isn't taking place until this evening :P Title: Re: Can you identify these locations? Post by: grahame on May 05, 2012, 15:18:08 Shows how little I know about the football ... I'm sure you can name some of places, thought, Phil
Title: Re: Can you identify these locations? Post by: JayMac on May 05, 2012, 15:29:21 I'm struggling with these but I'll have a punt at the 4th one being looking toward Stoke Gifford from the A38 near Filton.
Title: Re: Can you identify these locations? Post by: bobm on May 05, 2012, 16:09:34 2 - Chippenham?
Title: Re: Can you identify these locations? Post by: grahame on May 05, 2012, 17:28:58 Yes indeed ... No. 2 is Chippenham, and No. 4 is taken from where the A38 crosses the currently freight-only railway north of Filton at - err - North Filton platform ;D - see http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/n/north_filton/index.shtml for some old pictures of that station
Title: Re: Can you identify these locations? Post by: Mookiemoo on May 08, 2012, 21:42:00 1. Somewhere in Dublin
I am working there until october and saw one of them near PEarse Street - so......... Dublin Title: Re: Can you identify these locations? Post by: TonyK on May 08, 2012, 21:57:59 First one is, I think, a bit cheeky - LUAS in Dublin. Last one is further south-west - either Tarka or Gunnislake? The Stoke Gifford one - is that Parkway Station on the right, with the curved roof?
Title: Re: Can you identify these locations? Post by: grahame on May 09, 2012, 06:58:31 Yes ...
1. Luas at Citywest, Dublin (subject of much past posting of mine). 2. Chippenham (the SWT train was supposed to be a bit of a red herring 3. NOT YET IDENTIFIED - rather surprised at this 4. Indeed, Stoke Gifford. It's looking in the right direction for Bristol Parkway - could well be, but I don't know the area well enough to confirm 5. NOT YET IDENTIFIED - and this is quite a tough one due to lack of unusual visual clues. Not "way on down" in spite of the advert on the train. Taken on a stretch of line where I would like to see an extra 9 services per day, each way, in the next franchise, and where there is capacity for them without infrastructure investment. Title: Re: Can you identify these locations? Post by: ReWind on May 09, 2012, 14:18:45 I number 5 Yate?
Title: Re: Can you identify these locations? Post by: TonyK on May 09, 2012, 17:30:56 A teasing clue for number 5! I notice the "Devon & Cornwall" splash on the side, and a long, yet indistinct, name on the board. Okehampton?
Title: Re: Can you identify these locations? Post by: grahame on May 09, 2012, 17:51:13 People are still guessing too far west for number 5!
And I suspect CfN knows No. 3 Title: Re: Can you identify these locations? Post by: TonyK on May 09, 2012, 18:30:54 Looking closer, I am now sure that the curved structure in no 4 is Parkway. The bridge before that carries the South Wales line, and the new electric train depot will be built just past that, on the left. Haven't found a good place to take pictures yet; although I have flown over it a few times, I have always been a bit busy at the time.
Title: Re: Can you identify these locations? Post by: JayMac on May 09, 2012, 18:51:42 I'd agree that the structure is almost certainly BPW. There's nothing of a similar shape on the line of sight from the location that grahame took the photo.

And I suspect CfN knows No. 3 A real long shot but is no 5 where the Badingstoke line splits from the Kennet line - just south of reading west (probably far too east now!) Title: Re: Can you identify these locations? Post by: devon_metro on May 09, 2012, 19:38:10 Random stab in the dark... is 3 Weston Milton? I know they've had some recent artwork/flowers put in there.
Title: Re: Can you identify these locations? Post by: Chris from Nailsea on May 09, 2012, 20:10:19 Cough ... 3. is Patchway. :-[
Title: Re: Can you identify these locations? Post by: smokey on May 09, 2012, 20:14:08 I'll take a stab at No 5
As I think that it's the Front of the train I reckon it's the Barnstaple Line near Coleford Junction Title: Re: Can you identify these locations? Post by: grahame on May 09, 2012, 20:41:52 Cough ... 3. is Patchway. :-[ It says "London Paddington" so, yes, of course it's Patchway !! For No. 5 ... same location, adjacent shot on the 'film': (http://www.wellho.net/pix/wwwalk3.jpg) Should be solveable now! Title: Re: Can you identify these locations? Post by: thetrout on May 11, 2012, 01:00:44 I'll take a stab at this one... I reckon you were between Trowbridge and Bradford Junction... Possibly near the walkway for Innox Road??
