Title: Re: First Great Western Power Car honour the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Post by: inspector_blakey on May 04, 2012, 03:30:34 Horrendous. Looks like some ugly, bad-taste, cheap porcelain miniature that you'd see advertised in the Daily Mail. Sycophantic toadying to a bunch of unelected German robber barons (to steal a phrase from Jeremy Hardy).
Actually, if any producers of low-budget china tat targeted at Daily Mail readers are perusing this thread, I am prepared to sell you my idea for a nominal consideration. Sycophantic toadying to a bunch of unelected German robber barons (to steal a phrase from Jeremy Hardy). I wonder when Hornby / Lima will have a model of it in the shops? ;) It's certainly 'different'. For those of you who want it for 'Frothage' its on the country end of 1A81, 1C18, 1A27 and 1C96 today.... As I said, I have republican tendencies but perhaps wouldn't go that far. I'm just interested to see something different on the side of a HST power car. No. Hang on. You're right blakey. Off with their heads I say. :P ;) ;D Title: Re: First Great Western Power Car honour the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Post by: IndustryInsider on May 05, 2012, 10:23:38 . Quote Rail company transforms carriage for Queen's Diamond Jubilee First Great Western has redesigned the livery of one of its trains to help celebrate the Queen^s Diamond Jubilee. The new-look High Speed Train Power Car could be travelling through Swindon right now, carrying the official emblem for the Queen^s Diamond Jubilee 2012, designed by 10-year-old Katherine Dewar from Chester. It took a day for a specialist team to ^wrap^ the train at First Great Western^s Laira Depot in Plymouth, before having her nose and roof repainted by Laira^s maintenance team. After a test run last week, the train is back in full service, operating throughout Wiltshire and the South West from Tuesday. Gavin Payne, First Great Western Contracts Engineer at Laira depot said: "The speed at which these guys can remodel, refresh, wrap and paint a train is incredible. And it looks fantastic too. Being able to join the country as we celebrate 60 years of the Queen as Monarch, and hopefully be able to bring a smile as the quirky design passes through stations, is awesome." First Great Western is treating first class customers to a high tea in the first class lounge on Friday, June 1 ahead of the Jubilee weekend, where the power car will be at Paddington station for all customers to enjoy. From ThisIsSouthDevon (http://www.thisissouthdevon.co.uk/VIDEOS-Keeping-Diamond-Jubilee-celebrations-track/story-16032404-detail/story.html): Quote VIDEOS: Keeping the Diamond Jubilee celebrations on track Celebrations for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee are right on track. In fact, the jubilee will be celebrated on the rails as well as on the streets. In celebration of the big event, train operators First Great Western have "wrapped" an HST power car locomotive. The complex procedure sees the loco adorned with pictures and logos, as seen in this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1uTX8M4vsA&feature=player_embedded) released by First Great Western today. In this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICqtCQrSVE4&feature=player_embedded), HSTcallum captures the new livery as the train leaves Newbury bound for Plymouth. The power car is coming to a station near you. It is in service across the FGW network. Title: Re: First Great Western Power Car honour the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Post by: Trowres on May 09, 2012, 22:47:07 And how will HM mark 40 years of servce from the HST in 2016?
Title: Re: First Great Western Power Car honour the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Post by: JayMac on May 10, 2012, 00:18:57 And how will HM mark 40 years of servce from the HST in 2016? As a thanks to FGW for daubing one of their HST power cars with Diamond Jubilee vinyls, Brenda has agreed to have Buck House repainted in 'Dynamic Lines' in 2016 and will herself be wearing 'power car blue' during the celebrations for the Class 43's 40th anniversary. A specially commissioned wardrobe of alternate outfits for HM is also being designed, featuring blue and yellow twin-sets, as well as outfits featuring swallow and merlin motifs. ;) Title: Re: First Great Western Power Car honour the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Post by: JayMac on May 10, 2012, 02:01:08 Oh, and anyone care to tell the Wiltshire Gazette & Herald the difference between a power car and a carriage?

Quote First Great Western train gets Diamond Jubilee livery First Great Western (FGW) has coated one of its diesel locomotives in special livery to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. The new design was created by 10-year-old Katherine Dewar, from Chester. She was chosen from 35,000 entries in a nationwide competition run by BBC children's programme Blue Peter. The wrapped High Speed Train Power Car is in service across the FGW network. Congratulations to the talented Katherine Dewar for her winning design, I say: there was clearly a lot of competition! :) Title: Re: First Great Western Power Car honour the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Post by: plymothian on May 12, 2012, 21:35:56 Drove passed it stabled at Laira depot just now, didn't know about it so was a little unexpected so didn't geta good look.
Title: Re: First Great Western Power Car honour the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Post by: Western Enterprise on May 17, 2012, 16:21:41 It pulled us into PAD this morning on the 08.00 fast from Maidenhead.
Quite a striking design, a bit garrish with the dark blue as a backround. Must have been a sight crossing the Maidenhead Bridge. Title: Re: First Great Western Power Car honour the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Post by: johoare on May 18, 2012, 20:02:12 Yes.. I was on that train yesterday but hadn't been around till post it till now.. We saw it very close up yesterday morning :)
Title: Re: First Great Western Power Car honour the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Post by: bobm on May 28, 2012, 20:19:31 The Newbury Weekly News have picked up on it - with a photo from David Canning - who used to work on the railway.

I'm sure Coffee Shop member broadgage would approve! Title: Re: First Great Western Power Car honour the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Post by: Southern Stag on May 28, 2012, 20:20:31 It's got a bit of a thing for that diagram, think it's been on that train 3 times last week and today.
Title: Re: First Great Western Power Car honour the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Post by: caliwag on May 28, 2012, 22:34:21 Nearly failed on the 12.55 to Paddington from Ply on Friday. Driver fired it up with ensuing odd sounds and switched it off. However away it went East about 30 mins later! Hope it survived.
Title: Re: First Great Western Power Car honour the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Post by: SandTEngineer on May 28, 2012, 22:45:50 Well I was sat on the 1323 XC at the time and the 1255 left at about 1315. However, we all got held up by a points failure at Dawlish Warren so don't blame the late arrival at Paddington on the Power Car problem ::)
Title: Re: First Great Western Power Car honour the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Post by: Southern Stag on May 28, 2012, 23:31:25 Friday was a problem with 43186 shutting down but should now have been fixed.
