Title: Automated information system - arrival and departure platform numbers Post by: grahame on March 25, 2012, 06:07:24 I used the automated train information system with speech input yesterday, looking to sort out a journey on Easter Monday - the first time I have used this service as I couldn't find the details I needed elsewhere. The technology for such systems has certainly improved over the years.
When I asked for details of each leg, I was given departure and arrival times, and the platform number at which the train would arrive, but not the platform number for the ongoing connection. Personally, I'm not really concerned at the arrival platform (2 at Westbury, 4 at Paddington ....) at the end of each leg - at least I know whether I need my ticket out for a barrier at Paddington or can leave it in my bag, I suppose. It would be much more useful to know which platform to head to for the ongoing train, but that information was not provided. Can anyone tell me a logical reason for the system to give out platform numbers for arrival only?
