Title: Place these pictures in the order they were taken
Post by: grahame on February 26, 2012, 22:28:31
I'm in Ireland - travelled there today, taking pictures along the way.   The task is a simple one -  tell me the order in which they were taken.  "Team challenge" - no limits as to how many you can each identify.

I've forecast on my blog [here] (http://www.wellho.net/mouth/3626_There-is-so-much-to-see-travelling-by-train-.html) that you'll have them solved before I get back.  Don't let me down.

Won't yet attempt to place the order but will identify the location of a few:

1: Rather obvious!  ;) (Pronounciation (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/ae/Cy-Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.ogg))

9: Admiralty Arch, Holyhead.

d: Barton Hill TMD, Bristol.

And in English?

f: Could be Bath Spa but not sure.  :-\

However, the subject in the photo has been seen elsewhere. Notably as an unasked for squawking alarm call on my hotel window sill in Llandudno:

I digress. Back to the quiz. Placing the photos in the order they were taken....

3 : west end of Birmingham New Street
B : steel terminal on the approach to Wolverhampton.
7 : canal also on the approach to Wolverhampton. Occurs after B. Looking it up on the map, it's the Wyrley and Essington canal. It joins up with the main line of the BCN (Birmingham Canal Navigations) on the other side of the railway line.
4 : Norton Bridge. The station is officially still open but has no trains since they took away the access footbridge some years ago; now served by a bus to Stafford.
C : Crewe

You can tell which bit of your route I travel on.

a: looks like a National Express Coach to me... I have an idea or about the location, but on second thoughts, can't see it being plausable :-\

Some good answers - a couple are slightly off, but nothing a million miles from target.   Of course, no-one has asked me "is the right order x, y, z ..." yet, so if I gave too much away it would be spoiling the fun at this stage.   Very impressed how quickly you folks got certain pictures on the right lines!

Little bit of a further clue ... the Gull

(http://www.wellho.net/pix/noinfo2.jpg)

also taken at the same time(ish)

(http://www.wellho.net/pix/noinfo1.jpg)

Real lack of passenger information available - the printed sheets don't include the platform numbers, and customers were reduced to finding someone to ask - there must be a more efficient way.    Same problem earlier at Chippenham - screen turned off, and confusion even amongst the staff as to what was going where.

Picture (2) holds a clue as to why picture (a) appears to (and indeed was) taken on a coach.  Not actually a National Express one, though!

Hmmm... thread seems to have died.   Oh well - that was an experiment with something different.  Here are the place, a bit mixed up, those marked "*" identified

Flint
Conwy
Corsham Court
Temple Meads
on leaving Chester
Chippenham
Melksham
Holyhead
* Monmore Green
* Birmingham
* LlanfairPG
* Norton Bridge
* Crewe
* Bristol Depot
* Wolverhampton
* Holyhead
* Rhyl

Anyone like to tie this up by putting the final numbers / letters to the remaining pictures, and putting them in order?

6.  Melksham.  :P

Yep, at Dawn on Sunday, long before any public transport was running 'cos it was Sunday.  Our two 0-2-2-0 dogs were having a walk run in the field behind our home, which is about a mile and a half from the station on the other side of town.   From which you can deduce (a) Melksham's quite a big place and (b) this was the FIRST picture in the series  ;D

I'm impressed, too: there aren't many clues in that picture - and Rhyl is a fair way from your local area!  :o
