How many different HST types to FGW run?

On their website, there is now reference to 2+7, normal 2+8 and "super high capacity" 2+8

What is a super HC? Have they ripped out the remaining tables? Wouldn't it just be easier to run one type of HST. And I would hardly call 4 tables per coach LC either!

And what's the status with buffets vs mini buffets? I'm confused on that one.

I asked Jo on Twitter, who returned with "It will have an extra SC carriage (84 seats) - so 6 SC carriages and 2 FC. Jo", oppose to 5SC and 2FC + 1FC Buffet car - it also means they will have mini express cafes.

The 'Super High Capacity' sets are a consequence of the additional Standard Class coaches that are being converted from stored MkIII buffets.

These extra vehicles allow for all current 2+7 sets to be lengthened to 2+8. It'll be a few more months yet before the final HST fleet settles down. When it does I believe it will consist of:

2+8 Low Capacity with full buffet.
2+8 High Capacity with full buffet or micro buffet.
2+8 Super High Capacity with micro buffet.

Mistake on my part. No difference. Second line should've omitted 'or micro buffet.'

2+8 Low Capacity with full buffet. 5x Standard Class (with a few extra tables), Buffet/1st, 2x First Class
2+8 High Capacity with full buffet. 5x Standard Class, Buffet/1st, 2x First Class
2+8 Super High Capacity with micro buffet. 6x Standard Class (one with micro buffet), 2x First Class

That's my take, based on the drip feed of info. We'll just have to wait and see how the fleet finally shakes down....

Of course it's not quite as simple as that, since there are a multitude of buffet types. The TFB (Trailer First Buffet) not capable of Pullman service for example.  ;D

I was aware of the different 1st/buffet types (TFB/TRFB) that FGW currently use. Just trying to keep things simple.  ;)

Some of those TRFBs with full kitchens may well be seeing greater use of their kitchens if the rumours of an increase in Pullman/At Seat Dining are to believed.....
