Title: Train and car collide on Cambridgeshire level crossing - 25 February 2012 Post by: Chris from Nailsea on February 25, 2012, 13:23:21 From the BBC (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-17164265):
Quote A train and a car have collided on a level crossing in Cambridgeshire. The accident happened at 08:00 GMT on Saturday at the Victoria Street crossing in Littleport and involved a car with two women inside. Both were taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge with injuries described as not life-threatening. The crossing was closed and train services suspended between Downham Market in Norfolk and Ely for more than three hours. The main train operator on the line between Ely and King's Lynn is First Capital Connect which said journey times would take about 30 minutes longer until services returned to normal. Customers have been advised to check its website. A Network Rail spokesman said the train had been travelling from King's Cross in London to King's Lynn in Norfolk and the driver reported that there had been a collision involving a car at the Sandhill crossing in Littleport. "The train was not derailed and no passengers were injured," he said. "The equipment on the crossing was checked and found to be in full working order before the line reopened at 11:15 GMT." The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) is investigating the crash.
