Quote A development plan for the derelict Island Site in Bristol has been approved by councillors. The plan will involve setting up a development contract where the costs of a compulsory purchase order would be paid for by a developer. The land is jointly owned by Standard Commercial Property Development (SCPD), Earlcloud Limited and Bristol City Council. Spokesperson Kate Hartas said: "The council is delighted it has been approved. This site has been empty for too long and action needs to be taken." The site is made up of the George and Railway Hotel and adjoining land owned by SCPD. Alongside is the Grosvenor Hotel, which is under the ownership of Earlcloud Limited. The adjacent land is the property of Bristol City Council. Now the purchase order is approved, it is expected SCPD, which owns the major share of the land, will secure development of the site.
