Quote British Transport Police (BTP) is appealing for information after an attack at Cardiff Central railway station left a man with multiple head injuries. Officers want to hear from any witnesses to the incident, which occurred around 5.40pm on Saturday, 4 February and saw a 56-year-old man from Cardiff arrested. BTP officers have been studying CCTV footage from the station and have interviewed the victim and a witness, but are appealing for anyone else who was at the station at the time to come forward. Investigating officer PC Nigel Maggs said: ^The 24-year-old victim was sat in a car in the short-stay car park at the front of Cardiff Central station when he was assaulted by another man. ^As a result of the attack, the victim suffered a number of head injuries which required hospital treatment. ^This was a very serious attack and we^re eager to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time. ^The assault took place on a busy Saturday evening and there were a large number of people in and around the station who may have seen or heard something which could prove vital to our investigation. ^If you were at Cardiff Central station around the time of the attack, I would ask you to contact police as a matter of urgency.^ The victim was taken to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, for treatment to his head wounds, which fortunately were not life-threatening. He was later discharged. A 56-year-old man from the Cardiff area has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. He has been interviewed and released on police bail, pending further enquiries, until Thursday, 15 March 2012. If you were at Cardiff Central station between 5.30pm and 6pm on Saturday, 4 February, or have any information that could assist police with their enquiries, contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 quoting background reference B5/WCA of 10/02/2012.
