Title: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: thetrout on January 24, 2012, 04:02:42 I haven't done one of these for a while, so usual game, guess where the pictures are. Some in FGW Land, others not too far away, one of them very far away ;D
Usual rules, one guess per 24 hours ;) however there are further rules. Relex109, Ollie and Brucey are banned from answering for the first 48 hours as they have insider intelligence......... A further rule, no looking on my twitter account ;) Also, it may take a while for the pictures to load as the internet connection the server is located on is a little slowwwww! Finally, Picture 5 is a guess the TOC and Class of train, 1000 bonus points for anyone who can tell me the route you'd find this train too ;) Here goes: 1) Stratford Domestic - Unguessed (https://remote.mcknet.co.uk/pictures/240112Quiz/01.jpg) 2) - London Victoria - Southeastern Platforms - Timmer - Honorable Points for Brucey for guessing the location on twitter! (https://remote.mcknet.co.uk/pictures/240112Quiz/02.jpg) 3) - Gatwick Airport - bignosemac (https://remote.mcknet.co.uk/pictures/240112Quiz/03.jpg) 4) Alicante - Spain - Unguessed - Alvia Service from Madrid Atocha, Terminating at Alicante (https://remote.mcknet.co.uk/pictures/240112Quiz/04.jpg) 5) First Class on a Class 321 NXEA Unit to Southend Victoria - bignosemac - bonus points to readytostart for further adding it's an ex First Great Eastern unit! (https://remote.mcknet.co.uk/pictures/240112Quiz/05.jpg) 6) Reading - paul7755 (https://remote.mcknet.co.uk/pictures/240112Quiz/06.jpg) 7) Westbury - BandHcommuter (https://remote.mcknet.co.uk/pictures/240112Quiz/07.jpg) 8) Honiton - Unguessed (https://remote.mcknet.co.uk/pictures/240112Quiz/08.jpg) 9) - Honiton, Diverted HST Service for London Paddington - paul7755 (https://remote.mcknet.co.uk/pictures/240112Quiz/09.jpg) 10) Yeovil Pen Mill - smokey (https://remote.mcknet.co.uk/pictures/240112Quiz/10.jpg) Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: 6 OF 2 redundant adjunct of unimatrix 01 on January 24, 2012, 05:09:28 Today at 4am :-o
Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: Timmer on January 24, 2012, 06:01:32 2) Victoria, Southeastern platforms.
Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: JayMac on January 24, 2012, 09:15:10 5) National Express East Anglia Class 321 Driving Trailer Composite Open. First Class section, obviously. ;) Sorry, can't tell you whether it's a sub-class /3 or /4, or what the unit number is!!! :P
Possibly going to/from Southend? Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: paul7575 on January 24, 2012, 10:39:35 6. Reading
Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: grahame on January 24, 2012, 12:15:35 6. Reading ? What is "5905" ? I was thinking Northern Ireland and a wild guess of Larne Harbour Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: paul7575 on January 24, 2012, 13:13:00 6. Reading ? What is "5905" ? I was thinking Northern Ireland and a wild guess of Larne Harbour SWT's 455905. Some older EMU classes don't carry their whole number. PS - the pics seem to have disappeared today, has thetrout possibly exceeded his hosting site's limits? Paul Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: readytostart on January 24, 2012, 21:31:09 5) National Express East Anglia Class 321 Driving Trailer Composite Open. First Class section, obviously. ;) Sorry, can't tell you whether it's a sub-class /3 or /4, or what the unit number is!!! :P Possibly going to/from Southend? I'd agree and judging by the truly awful upholstery I'd say it's an unrefreshed former FGE unit. Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: thetrout on January 24, 2012, 22:03:03 2 is indeed London Victoria ;) well done Timmer :)
5 Yes is a Class 321 Unit in First Class to Southend Victoria. Bonus points for readytostart for guessing it is indeed an ex FGE liveried unit ;) 6 Well done paul7755, Reading is where that SWT Class 455 is ;) I'm suprised that one went so quickly as it's not often you find a 455 in RDG! Sorry grahame, it's not Northern Ireland. As paul7755 mentioned, you may have not been able to see the pictures today. This was due to a power supply failure, and for some reason which is being investigated, the UPS didn't kick in as it should have done :( So my apologies there! :-X That leaves: 1, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10 :) I will now open guessing to anyone, even if you've had a go :) However looking on my twitter account is banned! Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: Chris from Nailsea on January 24, 2012, 23:28:55 4. Madrid, Chamartin.
Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: JayMac on January 25, 2012, 02:19:41 7. Salisbury?
Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: Gordon the Blue Engine on January 25, 2012, 08:36:15 Is number 10 Newton Abbot, with the HST on the Paignton line?
Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: paul7575 on January 25, 2012, 09:51:57 6 Well done paul7755, Reading is where that SWT Class 455 is ;) I'm suprised that one went so quickly as it's not often you find a 455 in RDG! The clues were the railings in the foreground and the back of the advertising hoarding on the left - they clinched it for Reading... Paul Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: paul7575 on January 25, 2012, 10:08:11 9. Honiton (new footbridge, diverted HST service?).
Paul Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: thetrout on January 25, 2012, 12:07:36 4. Madrid, Chamartin. I sense cheating... But i'm afraid you are wrong :(7. Salisbury? Sorry, but it's not Salisbury. :(Is number 10 Newton Abbot, with the HST on the Paignton line? Good guess, but i'm sorry that's wrong too! :(9. Honiton (new footbridge, diverted HST service?). Yes, that is indeed Honiton with a diverted London Paddington HST Service! Relex109, Ollie and me took a trip out to see the diverts ;DTitle: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: BandHcommuter on January 25, 2012, 12:56:19 Number 7 looks rather like Westbury, looking from platform 2 towards platform 1.
Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: 6 OF 2 redundant adjunct of unimatrix 01 on January 25, 2012, 13:08:50 Half of them won't load for me.... Is it bad that I don't know exactly where 10 is lol
Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: JayMac on January 25, 2012, 16:50:57 Ah, b*gg*r. In that case, I'll second BandHcommuter's guess. Will 'Spain?' do for #4? :P Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: Chris from Nailsea on January 25, 2012, 18:10:34 4. Madrid, Chamartin. I sense cheating... But i'm afraid you are wrong :(Cheating?? A scandalous suggestion! :o No: I simply remembered you telling us all about your adventures on Spanish railways, between Lorca and Madrid, at http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/coffeeshop/index.php?topic=9835.msg102738#msg102738 ;D Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: JayMac on January 25, 2012, 18:27:30 As it's now a free-for-all, I'll have another go and say:
3) Gatwick Airport? Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: Brucey on January 25, 2012, 22:27:30 Shouldn't number 2 also be attributed to Brucey, as I managed to guess the location before you even posted the quiz ;D :P
Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: thetrout on January 25, 2012, 22:52:56 Number 7 looks rather like Westbury, looking from platform 2 towards platform 1. Bingo ;DAh, b*gg*r. In that case, I'll second BandHcommuter's guess. Will 'Spain?' do for #4? :P Well yes... It is Spain, Some Spanish Trains do go to France; So you are correct in saying that this picture is in Spain. But this type of train AFAIK doesn't go to France, They are however used on EuroMed services as far as Barcelona. As a hint I will say that "if" this train was running a EuroMed service from Barcelona, It would probably stop here :) So i'll award half a point for now ;D I suspect you're going to go off and investigate the Spanish timetable now... :P ;) ;D As it's now a free-for-all, I'll have another go and say: Yes 'tis Gatwick Airport, I know that because that 442 took me there..........3) Gatwick Airport? Shouldn't number 2 also be attributed to Brucey, as I managed to guess the location before you even posted the quiz ;D :P In theory yes... In practice, an honorary quarter point ;D ;)Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: thetrout on January 25, 2012, 22:58:01 Half of them won't load for me.... Is it bad that I don't know exactly where 10 is lol Well you didn't see me take that photograph... Number 8 on the otherhand, you were stood right next to me... I feel we're about to have another infamous "ChrisfromNailsea" Station............... Hmmm, pictures seem to work for me, but then i'm connected to it from it's service line... So I'll double check on my iPhone when I leave shortly :) The upload is fairly slow... 512Kbps Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: jester on January 26, 2012, 00:30:20 is no.8 Truro?
Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: thetrout on January 26, 2012, 02:23:08 is no.8 Truro? Sorry, no it's not :( Out of interest, what made you suggest Truro jester? From memory number 8 looks nothing like Truro, But it is 12 months since I was last there so it "could" have changed alot since then :) Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: JayMac on January 26, 2012, 02:31:40 I too was trying to reconcile 2x SWT Class 159s in deepest darkest Cornwall.... ???
Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: jester on January 26, 2012, 09:28:16 Am looking at the numbers at the bottom instead of the top...doh!
Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: 6 OF 2 redundant adjunct of unimatrix 01 on January 26, 2012, 15:08:54 Here is a clue For number 8 the station has 2 platforms one of which is bi directional, the other is only used a few times a day and is currently only used in the up direction.... There is a siding at this station which can't be accessed from the main line
Title: Re: Another Picture Quiz from thetrout Post by: smokey on January 26, 2012, 16:38:42 No 10 I got a feeling might just be Yeovil Pen Mill.
