From WalesOnline (http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/2012/01/17/commuters-delayed-by-incident-on-train-line-at-caldicot-91466-30143969/):

Rail commuters have been delayed by up to an hour tonight after the death of a man on the railway network at Caldicot in Gwent.

British Transport Police and paramedics were called to Caldicot level crossing at Pill Row at 4.414pm today, and a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Network Rail confirmed the incident shortly after 4.30pm via social networking site Twitter, saying: "Sorry to say that we are also liaising with emergency services after a person was hit by a train near Caldicot."

Train operator Arriva Trains Wales later confirmed: "Arriva Trains Wales - Delays of up to one hour between Cheltenham Spa and Cardiff Central due to person hit by a train at Caldicot."

A statement on the train company's website said: "Owing to a person hit by a train at Caldicot all lines are blocked.

"Train services through this station may be subject to disruption on all routes at short notice. An estimate for the resumption of normal services will be provided as soon as the problem has been fully assessed.

"Replacement road transport between Newport and Gloucester and vice versa has been arranged."

A British Transport Police spokesman said the death is currently not being treated as suspicious. Inquiries are ongoing and the identity of the man has not yet been established.

The train involved was the 15.45pm from Cardiff Central to Nottingham.

Although the article refers to 'Train operator Arriva Trains Wales....' the actual train involved (1545 CDF-NOT) would have been a CrossCountry service.

Thoughts, as always, with the driver of the service.  :(
