I need to go from pontyclun to edinburgh on wednesday - leaving after 1400

My best bet seems to be the 1540 XC from parkway to brum then to preston then edinburgh but national rail doesn't even show this option

The official options show via crewe etc

Cost isn't an issue so does anyone have any quickens ways from A to B

Journey planner by train gave me change at Cheltenham OR change at Cheltenham and Birmingham off the 14:52 from Pontyclun - higher fare, later arrival. Adding "via Shrewsbury" did indeed switch to a change at Crewe - same price of 157.30, though.

Yes, I know you said "cost isn't an issue" but I've added prices to make the thread generally useful.  Silly, but cheaper to fly and much quicker. By train you don't drag into Edinburgh until well after 10 O'clock (11 O'Clock if you go for the single change at Cheltenham option)

If I were paying 133.00 I'd just get up on thursday and go FGW to london then up on east coast and get there thursday!

From Pontyclun on that 14:52, you can get to Edinburgh via Paddington / Kings Cross the same evening as well - only about half an hour slower than the XC services and for readers who are effected by rail ticket costs a few pounds cheaper for your travel dates.

Which ever way you go by train still ridiculous air is cheaper.

Silly extra thought - would you be checking into a hotel in Edinburgh for the night?   If so, how about the sleeper train instead?

Nope - being picked up from waverly by my significant other who is up there now visiting his dad!

I have to work mon-wed so I'm home alone portishead until I finish at the client on wed afternoon!

P.S. we are getting the sleeper overnight on our return!
