CCTV RELEASED AFTER INDECENT BEHAVIOUR ON TRAIN ^ CARDIFF/NEWPORT

British Transport Police (BTP) detectives are appealing for the public^s help after a man performed an indecent act in front of a female passenger on a train between Cardiff and Newport.

Today, officers have released CCTV of a man they believe may have key information which could assist their investigation.

Investigating officer PC Jon Childs said: ^The victim, a 48-year-old woman who was travelling alone, boarded the 1823hrs Cardiff Central to Cheltenham Spa service at Cardiff.

^After taking her seat, a man came to sit directly opposite her. This man then exposed himself throughout the journey and performed an indecent act, all while looking directly at the victim.

^The incident lasted about ten minutes, until the man left the train at Newport.

^This was a sustained act which had a significant impact on the victim, who was visiting the area for the first time.

^Fortunately this type of incident is rare on the rail network, but understandably the victim was left extremely shaken and upset by what she had been forced to witness.

^I am now calling on the public to help bring this man to justice.^

Having viewed CCTV footage, officers have identified a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident, which happened on Sunday, 27 November 2011.

^The man is in his mid to late 60s and was wearing a brown overcoat and checked shirt,^ said PC Childs.

^We are anxious to speak to this individual as we believe he may have key information that could assist us in our investigation.

^If you recognise the man pictured, or have any information about the incident, I would urge you to contact police.^

Anyone with information should contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 quoting background reference B2/WCA of 09/01/2012. Information can also be passed to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
