A long section of the A36 will be closed at night for surfacing work over the next couple of weeks.

The Highways Agency will be closing the road between the junction of Warminster Road and Trossachs Drive at Bathampton and the roundabout where it meets the A361 near Beckington.

The agency has got permission to close the road from 8pm to 5am from Monday night until January 21.

Contractors will carry out highway maintenance, patching, white lining and stud replacement.

Access to and from homes and businesses that are only accessible from the A36 will be maintained during the work.

Through traffic will be diverted along the A4 and A350 via Chippenham and Trowbridge.
