Title: Save on Reading - Paddington Season Post by: fleeced commuter on December 21, 2011, 09:57:45 From Jn 1st class annual season Reading to Paddington is a staggering ^8232 or 8948 with Zones 1-6.
A 1st class season from Overton (Hants) to London Terminals is ^6480 or 7564 with Zones 1-6. This ticket, although obviously intended for commuters to Waterloo is available via Reading to Paddington as it meets the condition that ^Travel is allowed by any route option shown by the Journey Planner where the journey can be made using only one ticket^. The usual season ticket condition applies permitting use at ALL intermediate stations so a savvy Reading commuter can make a big saving. Unfortunately there is no standard class saving. Even with a Standard Class Zones 1-x Travelcard, savings can be made. And you get the added bonus of being able to visit the lovely town of Basingstoke for free every weekend. :-\ Mind you, let's hope that SWT don't see all these extra 1st Class ticket purchases from Overton, and convert their 159's to 1st Class assuming their 1st Class patronage has gone through the roof! On a railway related point is Basingstike the coldest station on the Network at least in NSE land? We used to change there in the 50s going from Southampton to Slough long before XC! Even with a Standard Class Zones 1-x Travelcard, savings can be made. I am unable to find a cheaper standard season which includes Reading ^Pad using an alternative ^originating^ station. However while searching I uncovered another anomaly. Bramley has a 3960 fare to London, must travel via Basingstoke. A Bramley-Waterloo commuter would save by buying a 3800 Basingstoke to London terminals valid any route.
