The Great Western "Coffee Shop" Passenger forum, January 2025

The "Coffee Shop" forum was set up by customers of Great Western Railway (First Great Western at the time - in 2007). The views expressed were and are those of the individual posters concerned; the forum remains independently provided and run by our team of passengers and (subject to agreeing to our forum agreement) is free and open to anyone to register and contribute.

We have started 2025 with a major update ("Mark 2"). We are still online at www.firstgreatwestern.info, also reachable via www.greatwesternrailway.info.   We are now available using https (secure) in addition to http (unencoded) protocols, and most of our content of over 350,000 posts arranged in 25,000 threads can now be read on your small screen device such as a mobile phone. We recommend that for substantial posts you use a larger screen.

So what do you see when you come to https://www.firstgreatwestern.info or https://www.greatwesternrailway.info?

Icons along the top take you to
- Your nearest or home station (the train icon)
- The home page illustrated (the house icon)
- Recently added public posts (the clock)
- The main forum pages (The coffee cup with steam)
- Further links (the links of a chain)
- A page where you can tailor your look and feel (the sewing machine)
- Current train running updates (the gear wheel and alert)
- Our search facility (the magnifying glass)
- A reminder of what these icons all mean (the question mark)
and the word "news" takes you to site news!

Following the main forum page link will take you to

Some of the key links for newcomers:
- Your nearest or home station (the train icon)
- The home symbols icon takes you back to the previous (home) page
- The coffee cup symbol with steam rising takes to this top page on the forum
- The Register [here] takes you to the page where you can register to contribute
- you can explore the boards, within them threads, and within them topic lower down the page.

And here is what your nearest or home stations will give you

Do you have something you would like to add to this thread, or would you like to raise a new question at the Coffee Shop? Please [register] (it is free) if you have not done so before, or login (at the top of this page) if you already have an account - we would love to read what you have to say!

You can find out more about how this forum works [here] - that will link you to a copy of the forum agreement that you can read before you join, and tell you very much more about how we operate. We are an independent forum, provided and run by customers of Great Western Railway, for customers of Great Western Railway and we welcome railway professionals as members too, in either a personal or official capacity. Views expressed in posts are not necessarily the views of the operators of the forum.

As well as posting messages onto existing threads, and starting new subjects, members can communicate with each other through personal messages if they wish. And once members have made a certain number of posts, they will automatically be admitted to the "frequent posters club", where subjects not-for-public-domain are discussed; anything from the occasional rant to meetups we may be having ...
