In March 1873, the First Thomas Cook European Rail Timetable was publish and now over 150 years later their is still a European Rail Timetable.  Thomas Cook closed their publications section a decade ago and it is now run by a separate company, with 4 printed issues a year and a digital version too. See (here).  I carry the printed version with me on current tour and also have access to the digital data.  The printed tome is becoming less used, but it is far from redundant and even in my very light packing, it retains and will retain its place.

and here are some of the trains covered in that timetable:

Yes, we will be carrying the printed copy in our luggage as well, and I'm sure I will spend hours looking through it when we are travelling. Setting off first thing tomorrow morning.

Many thanks, and I hope yours is going well.

I won't be logging into the Coffee Shop while away, but if I come across anything of interest, I'll post it here after returning. Our trip is a bit of a whirlwind, but we will be in the Czech Republic for a couple of days, staying in Prague, and although we are most likely to stay just in the city, I am inspired by your photos to explore further into the country. But it will all be new for both of us, as we have never been to Germany or anywhere further east.

The fact that the ERT was up for sale was reported here. A buyer has now been found - this note appears on the ERT webs site (it's in the editorial to the summer 2024 edition):

STOP PRESS
We are pleased to announce that European Rail Timetable Limited has been sold to a private individual with a wide range of business interests in the travel industry, and who has been a long-term subscriber of the timetable. This means the future of the timetable is secure and that production will carry on as normal.
