08:45 Swindon to Weymouth due 11:08
08:45 Swindon to Weymouth due 11:08 will be terminated at Yeovil Pen Mill.
It will no longer call at Maiden Newton, Dorchester West and Weymouth.
It has been delayed at Swindon and is now 24 minutes late.
This is due to a fault with the signalling system.

What is there to do with a bucket and spade at Yeovil?

Well - change of plans again and it ran to Weymouth, arriving 28 minutes late.

But just one cheer not three - how many people were turned away because of JourneyCheck?   How many were on the platform when the real time systems announced it would not run beyond Yeovil?

I'm sure that those with an operational bias will be celebrating it getting there - and less that half an hour late so that the next delay / repay level does not kick in.  And that's what will be reported to managers and mandarins.  Here (in Melksham) I wonder how many excited families gave up on a trip to the seaside ... and won't trust to the train again.

Getting confused as to what's running where.  If I'm having trouble keeping track - and if I am having trouble, are others?

I'm also confused by that one.  Have they reverted to just dumping it on the track?  Roll Eyes

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

There are 44 train cancellations showing on Journey Check this morning across the GWR (Great Western Railway) area and 29 other short runs - none through Melksham such as

It looks like those are re-instated as they have gone from the cancellation list, although reports such as

Quote
08:45 Swindon to Weymouth due 11:08
Facilities on the 08:45 Swindon to Weymouth due 11:08.
This is due to more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time.
Will be formed of 2 coaches instead of 3 to Westbury.

Suggest to me that the morning train at 09:10 from Melksham to Weymouth which is advertised as a through train may not actually be a through train.

Our local advertising - co-ordinated somewhat between targeting passengers from Swindon, Chippenham and Melksham is / has always been measured to avoid unreasonable crowds - historic overcrowding to be avoided. However, with the weather coming pouring rain down in buckets,  and with a game of soccer on the TV later today, I don't thinks it's a day for many to chose a trip to the seaside.   With the appalling reliability of the train service on match days,  we in the community have not been promoting it on social media or with the local paper or radio, nor on our wen sites and through our network.

So - in summary - I think 2 carriages will be well plenty, and if it's train with plenty of fresh air today, so be it. Better that than the significant risk (and information yesterday) that people would not be able to get home from Weymouth to Melksham.

It's getting very hard to know what's running and what isn't when a service is cancelled, re-instated, said to be cancelled again.
