I have mirrored the report on this accident at http://www.passenger.chat/HSE_Southall1997.pdf

Seven people were killed when a high speed train headed for London passed signals at danger and collided with a freight train crossing over ahead of it at Southall.   I have posted this in "Railway History" because it's something we never wish to see again though many lessons were learned for today.  It was followed just 2 years later by the Ladbroke Grove accident in which 31 people were killed.

Both of these accidents are within the living memory of many of our members, and indeed at least one member was on the train at Ladbroke Grove and I sat and read his posting speechless and with deep thought.  We may have other member who were involved in some way, closely or not so closely with one or other accident and - please - as you read this take a moment to think not only of those killed, but also of all of those deeply effected and their families too.
