For those who haven't come across it, there is an excellent site, https://www.ontimetrains.co.uk/, which gives arrival times for every journey, the amount delayed, and whether compensation is due. It also has a useful link to GWR (Great Western Railway)'s page for making claims. I hadn't realised that delays of fifteen minutes are now eligible.

Though this site only helps in the case of direct journeys.

It's not clear to me how a delay is calculated when a journey involves a missed connection.  Does compensation only apply if one or both of the trains is more than 15 minutes late, or is it the delay to the overall journey that matters?

I actually asked this question to the conductor on a train last week when it was apparent I was going to miss my connection.  He said I could apply for compensation, but I queried this since the train I was travelling on was going to be 10 minutes late arriving at the station where I had to change.  Turned out he wasn't actually sure about the small print.

Personal experience though I have only claimed delay repay once.

Trowbridge to Swansea ... train from Trowbridge a bit late approaching Patchway and held for the Swansea train to go though.  Journey Planner connection failed at Cardiff and I caught next available Swansea service which was on time. Maximum lateness of the delayed train was less that 15 minutes but it was the journey delay than counted and my claim was successful.

Wife and daughter claimed delay repay last week.

Warminster to Ryde St John's Road. Warminster to Portsmouth Harbour train 27 mins late. Missed ferry - ferry hourly service. Claimed for one hour delay.
Rejected by GWR (Great Western Railway) - saying delay was less than 15 mins HuhHuh
Contested rejection (I supplied details from RTT» (Real Time Trains - website)) - 60 min delay paid - full refund of Single trip.Trip was actually split ticketing - 3 tickets used. I thought that might be a problem, but apparently not.
The whole episode only took 7 days - so the speed of the system seems OK - just the initial outcome.

On Monday I posted 4 Advance tickets to GWR (freepost address) requesting a refund as my booked train, WMN» (Warminster - next trains) to WAT (and ret), was to be cancelled on Wednesday due to SWR» (South Western Railway - about) strike. Got email this morning saying money would be with me in 5 days. No complaints there.
