Looking at the Fen Line (to King's Lynn) you'll find that electric unit 365527 is called "Robert Stripe, Passengers^ Champion" - so there is a precedent for naming stock after individuals as well as organisations who have achieved a great deal for passenger rail transport in their area. Personally, I think I would prefer to name services. I would love to be in the happy position of helping to choose six names - one for each round trip on our local line each day - and I can already think of more candidates that trains. Except in one case (a good friend of the railway service here abouts who passed away last year) these would be keen living supporters - a big "thank you" if we get the service, and [ulterior motive] a chance for those people who have been so helpful in what would have been the regaining of a service to allow their names to be used to help us to then retain the service.

If you're successful in restoring the TransWilts line then someone should suggest naming the 153 that might run it "Graham Ellis" on the opening day. I'm sure we would all turn up to cheer.

I trust you'll all turn up to cheer - even for a nameless 142 . You see me talking about "regain and retain"? The ultimate confirmation will be when the service of 6 trains a day that we intend (!) to get from December is enhanced further; you're welcome to apply my name to the 06:15-ish Weymouth to Oxford and beyond. This will take commuters from Dorset and Somerset via Melksham to Swindon and Oxford. "Beyond" is in planning - via Bicester, Milton Keynes, to Bedford ... or via Banbury, Coventy, and Nuneaton to Leicester. I think we need a 158, although I'm worried about overcrowding between Frome and Oxford ...

Hope that's not one of the ones that is reported elsewhere to be heading north.
What odds can I currently get at Ellis Bookies for your campaign being successful, and how long do you reckon before a final decision one way or the other?
