1  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: GWR free travel card - Scam? on: January 13, 2025, 08:07:54
I had a post pop up on Facebook with the £3 card offer which I immediately reported as a scam but FB said it was ok!
So just remember "if it seems too good to be true, it probably (most certainly) is"

Minor point..
Clicking the <like> button takes me to an almost blank screen with just the words "Your like has been registered" in the top left corner. I then have to back up and refresh the page.

Secretary of State confirms that the pay rise has made matters worse.....

but the higher basic pay may encourage more people to try and join the railways, if the companies are allowed to employ them.

At least when the new class 99 freight locomotives are introduced next year they shouldn't be confused with the last "99's", they were considerably heavier and they floated!
I don't believe the ships physically had the number on them it was just an allocation they were given in the TOPS (Total Operations Processing System) system.

Query - Why is the Falmouth branch at a standstill when the power failure is at Roskear?

The two 150 units are stabled at Penzance overnight.

Just for a bit of historic info...

1979 - 1980

50% discount on ordinary singles & returns and day returns (peak & off peak)

£2 min fare on ordinary singles & day returns
£4 min fare on ordinary returns

No cut off time for the minimum fares, they applied at all times except Saturdays, Sundays, Bank holidays and July & August.

By 1981 all was the same but a cut off time was introduced on weekdays ... 18.00hrs

There's a video from coastal camera footage arrived in my You Tube feed showing the rescue of the broken down train at Dawlish - link here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kB9YYWmXQsU

It seems that this was an unfortunate coincidence of high spring tides around the autumn equinox and strong SE winds. Might a precautionary suspension of Inter-city services and shuttle with sprinters be a good idea as a standing contingency plan? No doubt those in the business will know if that's possible.

The equinox spring tides were about 8-9 days ago and nearly a metre higher than yesterday. That would have been interesting!!!
