You're making my mouth water.

Hmm.  Lips sealed

Wikipedia acknowledges that the distinction between the 'Severn Estuary' and the 'Bristol Channel' is somewhat vague.

I'm therefore going to include both in this now renamed topic.  Wink

Thanks

This discussion is about ferries across the Bristol channel and not across the Severn, which finishes at around the bridges.  Should the title be updated?

One has to ask: "why didn't they.......................

The headline says 'Emergency' so, presumably, not planned.

I saw and liked the Adelaide picture yesterday.

I would have voted 'No - but I have in the past' if it had been an option.

We typically use the train for London trips and we have not been recently.  When I am next planning to go by rail I will renew it.

The man has now been released with 'no further action' according to police.
9  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Suitable train sets on: March 20, 2025, 16:56:57
Yesterday I was very surprised to board a GWR (Great Western Railway) IET (Intercity Express Train - replacement for HSTs (manufactured by Hitachi in Kobe, Japan)) train at Aschurch (Tewkesbury)  for a stopping service to Bristol.

Stops at Cam&Dursley and then Yate required passwengers to move down to ther first three carriages.

Is GWR short of spare local train sets, or does it have spare IET's that it needs to use occasionally?

This is not a new issue.  My son lived in Bristol and commuted to work in Yate by bike.  When he had evening meetings he would catch the train home; except for the days when the normal train was replaced by an HST (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) and, since he had not reserved a bike space, he was prevented from boarding.  Why couldn't GWR recognise that bike reservations were not normally required and allow him plus bike on the replacement?

On 8 September 1962 it hauled the last Pines Express on the Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway

There is a description of that run in 'Mendips Engineman' by the driver PW (Permanent Way - the railway track) Smith.

I did feel that try no 10, after 80 minutes, was a little greedy.

Based on the comment above that a deforested area was now regrowing there may be dormant seeds that will germinate and grow (with or without any external assistance)

I was more concerned with incoming trains as HM Government has wanted to perform immigration procedures on the continent to remove the possibility of arriving passengers who are denied entry claiming asylum.
