Thank you.  I live on the line and my neighbour worked clearing the line and the Sandford Station heritage centre.
There are a few errors and inaccuracies in the video.
2  Sideshoots - associated subjects / News, Help and Assistance / Re: Browsers - what are you running? Are you seeing this? on: December 29, 2024, 17:39:11
No problems with Edge on Windows 10.

My old iPad runs Safari under iOS 9.3.6 and I do not see the graphic.  I would not consider this a problem as I should replace a 13 year old piece of kit.

The other issue on fares is the government policy on subsidies.

Only seems to affect trains leaving depots for their first run of the day - once in service, they seem to be running normally - says National Rail in an update

Apparently if stopped drivers logging on.  Once they had logged on using a slower, secondary, process they were fine.

1) Reduce the drink driving limit to that prevailing in our neighbour, the Irish Republic.

Sadly, from what I read in the papers and on-line, the increasing problem is other intoxicants. Those who campaign vociferously for their legalisation, please note.

I would also add my support to Bob B's comments about using mobile devices on the move, but add that the move towards screen operation of many controls in cars cannot help. A friend was demonstrating how his new Tesla car worked, and I was concerned at how many operations I can do without even looking down required stabbing an icon on a screen, selecting a menu and then an option on it. All such controls that work when the vehicle is in motion should be banned under safety legislation.

My neighbour has a Tesla.  He said it was like driving an iPad.

I understand that the European vehicle regulations are being reviewed with the aim of requiring fixed switches for key functions.

The map does not include the Bristol and North Somerset line which had also already closed for passengers, but not coal.

12  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Petition for mileage based fares on: November 23, 2024, 17:37:11

Distance related fares are something that I have supported for quite some time; the price of any service, particularly one partially funded by the tax payer, should to some extent reflect the cost of providing it. I fully understand that this is not a simple calculation, and there are a myriad of things (potential variations) to be considered before settling on an appropriate £/mile metric.

I would imagine the cost of tickets on services such as the Night Riviera would be unaffordable to just about everyone were that formula to be followed.

A potential solution would be to taper the cost of rail travel over a specified distance.

For example:
First 150 miles x p/mile
Next 50 miles .75 x p/mile
Next 50 miles .50 x p/mile

This algorithm would be published as part of new mileage based fares.  Similarly off peak fares could be charged as a specified % of the standard fare.
13  Journey by Journey / Transport for London / Re: Lord Blunkett injured in Tube platform gap fall - October 2024 on: November 17, 2024, 20:42:47
Are there any alternatives I have missed, or have I overcomplicated them?

Rebuild the station to have straight platforms.

It is worse than that.  Reborn the tunnels to have straight tracks.
14  All across the Great Western territory / Your rights and redress / Re: Passenger Charter - what I want on: November 10, 2024, 17:27:26
I agree that Google shows planned, not operational details.  I doubt that many people in Plymouth first thought of going to London this afternoon when they woke up this morning.

I see the missing 18:15 train as coming under your heading of being kept informed of problems.  Our hypothetical traveller could have used Google earlier in the week to plan the journey and then not been informed of the replacement of the 18:15.  At least in this case on arrival at the station they can be directed to the slightly later train but will arrive at Paddington nearly an hour late.
